Setting Up Your Strategy
How to build your strategy foundation in Crewie
Strategy is the foundation of everything in Crewie. Before you create a single task or project, it's worth spending 15–20 minutes getting your strategy set up. Here's why: once your strategy is in the system, CrewieAI can use it as context for every answer it gives you, and every piece of work you create can be linked back to a reason.
For Solo Operators
Your strategy lives in the Solo Strategy Crew — a focused one-page framework covering:
- Who you help (your ideal customer)
- What you sell (your core offer)
- Why clients choose you (your differentiation)
- Your quarterly outcome (the one thing that matters most this quarter)
- Your key numbers (the metrics you're tracking)
- What you're stopping (the things you're saying no to)
Fill this in honestly. The "what you're stopping" section is often the most valuable — clarity about what you're not doing is just as important as clarity about what you are.
For Startup Founders
Your strategy follows the StartupPath — an 8-stage progression:
- Founder Clarity
- Problem Validation
- Solution Design
- MVP
- Traction
- Product-Market Fit
- Scaling
- Exit/Plateau
Each stage has required artefacts (the outputs you need to produce) and pre-built task packs (ready-to-go task lists). Work through the stages in order. Don't skip stages — the artefacts at each stage build on each other.
For Scale-Up Teams
Your strategy is built in layers:
- Vision — where you're going in 5–10 years
- Mission — what you do and for whom
- Core Values — how your crew shows up
- BHAG — your bold 10-year moonshot
- North Star Metric — the single most important number, with a target
- Strategic Goals — measurable goals tracked month by month
- Strategic Initiatives — the major bets you're making this cycle
Work through these in order. The system calculates a live Strategy Health Score so you always know if your strategy is complete and on track.
Tips for getting started
- Don't aim for perfect — aim for honest. A rough strategy in the system beats a perfect strategy in your head.
- Use CrewieAI to help. Open Ask Crewie and say "help me write my vision statement" or "what should my North Star Metric be?" It'll guide you through the thinking.
- Review and update your strategy quarterly. It's a living document, not a one-time exercise.
